SUPPLY NEEDS

The HAVEN shelter provides three meals and living supplies to our residents each day. We typically house 45 adults and children in the shelter, so donated supplies are always welcome. Listed below are some of the items we currently need most desperately. We can only accept new items because of a lack of storage space.However, we can accept used cell phones that are in working order. MATCHING GIFTS

Many employers will match gifts their employees make to HAVEN. Check with your employer to see if they are a matching gift company. It’s as simple as mailing in a completed form with your gift to HAVEN. We will do the rest.

STOCKS, BEQUESTS AND INSURANCE

MEMORIALS AND TRIBUTE GIFTS

Honor that special person or pet in your life or send a gift in memory of a loved one by contacting Tracy Thomas at 248.334.1284, ext. 344 or tthomas@haven-oakland.org. HOST AN EVENT

A great way to help while having a good time is to host a special awareness or fund-raising event for HAVEN. Some ideas include company-sponsored Casual for a Cause days, dinner parties, bake sales and special sales days. Click here for our third-party event guide. Some restrictions apply. PHONE COLLECTION

HAVEN collects used cell phones to be used for 911 phones for survivors. Working cell phones and accessories can be dropped off at these locations. Phones that aren’t in working condition are recycled for profit with www.charitablerecycling.com.  You can mail your cell phone directly to Charitable Recycling using this pre-paid label.  For more information, click here for our phone-raiser flyer or contact Linda Fountain at lfountain@haven-oakland.org or 248.334.1284, ext. 306.

PLANNED GIVING

In your lifetime, you have most likely been generous to many causes. They may have been charities that have made a difference in your life or the lives of those that you care about, or perhaps their mission is one that you believe in and want to help support.

There are many charitable organizations that need financial assistance from people like you to continue their work. More than 80 percent of Americans contribute to the nonprofit groups of their choice throughout their lifetimes. But according to research, only around eight percent of people chose to continue this support through a charitable bequest. By making bequests and other “planned gifts,” you can continue to help organizations that are making an important difference in your community.

What better way to thank the people or organizations that have had an impact on your life or that carry out a mission that you wholeheartedly support, than to make a contribution from your estate?

If only 20 percent of Americans left a charitable bequest, the current number of charitable bequests would more than double. Imagine what the impact to charitable organizations would be if the 80 percent of Americans who give during their lifetimes also make a charitable gift through their estate plans!
