Moving Out of a Crisis
Counseling Program
The non-residential Counseling Program services individuals of all ages who have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Counseling in this program focuses on the educational component of the dynamics and effects of abuse, on crisis intervention, on sorting out feelings of confusion and helplessness, and on implementation of safety planning and support. Children’s groups also incorporate art and play therapy techniques.
Counselors implement components of empowerment, client-centered and solution-focused brief therapy as a guide in setting and accomplishing the goals of the people we serve, empowering them to move forward in their lives. Both group and individual counseling is available at our Pontiac and Bingham Farms locations.
Specialty groups and seminars take place throughout the year, addressing topics such as healing and loss, increasing self-esteem, parenting when there is domestic violence, etc.

Personal Protection Order (PPO) Office
On October 1, 2006, HAVEN adopted the Oakland County Personal Protection Order (PPO) Office after the closure of the Women’s Survival Center. It is located at the Oakland County Circuit Court.
Victims of stalking and domestic violence are often confused and intimidated by the PPO process. Our skilled staff helps make this process simple and provides reassurance to those who may not have had experience with the court system.
There is no fee for this service. To contact the PPO Office, please call 248.975.9511. This program is funded by VOCA (Victims of Crime Act).
