You need to talk to someone? We’re here to listen.

If you are in need of crisis intervention counseling and our online chat is not available, please call our Crisis and Support TTY Line at 248-334-1290 or toll-free at 877-922-1274. Our Crisis and Support Line is available 24 hours a day.

Here are some things you need to know about our live online chat:

  • Once you open a chat session, you won’t be able to navigate through the site. Please open a new browser window if you need to access another web page.
  • Our crisis counselors do not provide therapeutic services. Our therapeutic services are available at HAVEN locations. Crisis chat counselors will provide support, information and referrals.
  • Our expertise is in domestic violence and sexual assault. If you have an issue that is outside of these areas, please consider contacting www.crisischat.org.

Chat Guidelines

  1. Chats are generally conducted between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, based on staff availability. The toll-free Crisis and Support Line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if immediate help is needed.
  2. Swearing at the crisis counselor, abusive language toward the crisis counselor or any communication toward the crisis counselor deemed unacceptable is not permitted. If this type of communication occurs, the chat will be terminated, and you may be barred from future sessions.
  3. If you are contacting us to seek help for a friend or a family member, please respect their privacy and refrain from sharing any identifying information (i.e., name, address, city of residence, etc.).

Privacy and Security

While HAVEN has taken steps to protect your safety and anonymity, there are also ways for you to clear all traces of your visit.

We encrypt every transcript, which means that as soon as you hit send, no one can intercept your message. Plus, we test our systems every day to make sure they are “hacker safe.”

You may use online chat without personally identifying yourself. You can opt to use online chat anonymously. You will not be required to provide any identifying information unless you choose to.

If the crisis counselor has reason to believe that a life-endangering situation exists (harm to self or others), you will be asked to provide your identifying information. If you refuse to do so, the crisis counselor may use available information (e.g., your IP address) to assist emergency services in providing additional assistance.
