Child Development Assistant - Part Time

PROGRAM: Residential - Shelter





Do you have a passion for working with kids? Are you passionate about ending domestic violence? We have an opportunity for a high energy individual to work with children from diverse backgrounds experiencing crisis in a child care setting.




Bachelor's Degree in child development, teaching or equivalent combination of education and experience; Experience in planning children's activities, outings and creative play within a residential setting; Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse; Good understanding of child development and common behavior problems associated with DV/SA issues; Excellent conflict resolution skills; Ability to work a flexible schedule is required including evenings, weekends and holidays; Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license; Ability to demonstrate a sincere, caring and non-judgmental attitude towards others with a sincere passion for working with kids and teens; Bi-lingual candidates are encouraged to apply.


Primary responsibilities include: Develop age appropriate activities for children residing in our shelter; Assist with age appropriate curriculum based on needs of children in residence; Assist with parent and family education sessions; Care for children in shelter playroom during parent counseling sessions; Coordinate children’s programming including schooling and recreational activities; Coordinate and supervise sponsored events for children and families; Continuously work to create and maintain a safe and warm atmosphere, and generally pitch in and respond to the needs of a 24/7 communal living environment.


20 Hours/week: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday 5pm – 9pm
