Crisis & Support Line Specialist

Join HAVEN’s team of professionals whose mission is to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault through treatment and prevention services across Oakland County, Michigan and surrounding communities.

Under the direction of the Crisis & Support Line Supervisor, the Crisis & Support Line Specialist will primarily field calls, walk-ins and online requests for crisis assistance and support help. Following the completion of 40 hours of training, the Crisis & Support Line Specialist will work directly with victims using active listening and use knowledge of resources to provide needed guidance. Once proficient on the job, mentoring and training of volunteers and interns will be conducted. Regular communication with the shelter in order to obtain accurate occupancy rate so proper determination of space can be made. Ensure proper records, data entry and co-worker communication in order to maintain compliance and smooth agency operation.

Bachelor degree in Human Services or an equivalent combination or education, work and volunteer experience working with adults and children. Knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault. Skilled in active listening and crisis intervention required. Ability to assess callers’ primary need. Excellent verbal communication skills coupled with the ability to make quality “customer service” a priority required. Knowledge of community, state and federal resources helpful. Has the ability to empower individuals of various socio-economic status, cultural / racial backgrounds and orientations. Ability to work a flexible schedule is required including evenings, weekends and holidays. Working knowledge of Windows Office software. Data entry into Case Stream. Bi-lingual candidates preferred.


  • Provide crisis and support telephone coverage to our crisis line and online chat program.
  • Responsible for crisis walk-in clients, complete and maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Inputs data according to protocol, update resource manuals and assist with administrative tasks (e.g. mailings) as needed.
  • Knowledgeable or HAVEN’s programs, policies and procedures.
  • Assists in both training and mentoring.

  • HOURS:
    20 Hours per week, including some Saturdays and evenings
