Residential Care Specialist

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Residential Services Director, the Residential Care Specialist will be responsible for front desk coverage, fulfilling clerical duties including answering the phone, data entry, reporting, documentation, file maintenance and excellent customer service to the residential guests in our Domestic Violence Survivor shelter. The Residential Care Specialist will help to ensure safety of facilities and residential guests. The Residential Care Specialist will provide crisis intervention support when necessary.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides residential front desk coverage and excellent customer service to HAVEN residential guests
  • Interacts with residential guests and includes educational information on domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Maintains safety through monitoring of those entering and exiting the building and provides assistance during critical incidents including client escalation, calling 911, evacuation for fire alarm
  • Treat all residents and staff with dignity and respect
  • Represents the agency in a manner that conveys a professional, courteous, caring and cooperative attitude
  • Answers and directs callers and visitors to the appropriate referrals and answers the Crisis and Support Line as necessary
  • Sorts and distributes mail
  • Assists residential guests with transportation needs, including managing and planning the distribution and usage of bus tickets, planning bus routes and assisting residents in mapping out routes
  • Sorts and stocks donations and basic supplies at the front desk as needed
  • Enters data and provides clerical support as needed
  • Posts calendar of weekly activities and updates communication boards
  • Maintains and organizes lobby and intake office
  • Provides assistance during critical incidents including client escalation, calling 911, evacuation for fire alarm
  • Prints out resources for residential guests and assists them in basic computer usage
  • Attends team meetings as required
  • Logs and fulfills residential guests personal need requests
  • Cleans, stocks and prepares residential guest rooms after residential guest discharge
  • Assists in closing files of discharged residential guests and assists residential guests returning to pick up personal belongings
  • Assists residential guests with the completion of documentation request forms
  • Trains and orients residential volunteers and interns and maintains volunteer log, sign-in sheets and time sheets
  • Works varied shifts as needed
  • Maintains detailed, accurate records necessary for program and case files

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • College course work in human services, psychology, social work, mental health, or related health fields
  • Knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Customer service experience
  • Must work well under pressure and in stressful situations
  • Comfortable working in a setting with exposure to the pain and suffering of others
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of responsibilities including assistance to residential guests, report preparation, safety assessment and cleaning
  • Computer proficiency in Office applications.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s license required

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree in human services, psychology, social work, mental health, or related field
  • Experience motivating, educating and empowering victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault who are from diverse backgrounds and who face additional barriers such as: PTSD, substance abuse, poverty, mental illness, unemployment and physical disabilities

 

Hours: 40 Hours per week / Typical Schedule: Tuesday - Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Friday & Saturday: 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. / Flexibility required
