HAVEN’s Mission: To empower survivors to heal and engage all individuals and communities to address and prevent sexual assault and intimate partner violence.
This position provides direct advocacy services and creates outreach strategies and capacity building practices to increase the access to sexual assault services for underserved populations of sexual assault survivors and their support network. It requires a BA in Human Services, Gender Studies, Social Justice or related field, previous crisis counseling experience, knowledge of the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse from an empowerment philosophy. Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in working with diversity and inclusion among marginalized populations and providing direct services. Experience providing victim advocacy services preferred. Excellent communication skills are a must with expertise in facilitating challenging conversations around identity, power, and privilege. Requires the ability to be diplomatically assertive and nonjudgmental with others. Knowledge of trauma informed supportive services for sexual assault victims of all ages. Must be able to travel within Oakland County and the surrounding areas. Multi-cultural and multi-lingual candidates are encouraged to apply. The work schedule for this position is Tuesday – Saturday 8:30-5p with on call hours Friday 5p – Saturday 5p.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Provide advocacy, support and referrals for victims of sexual assault across a wide spectrum of underserved populations
Provide first response support to sexual assault victims
Provide personal, medical and legal advocacy to victims of sexual assault that is culturally specific, trauma informed, and inclusive
Increase HAVEN’s capacity to serve sexual assault victims from marginalized, underserved and socially excluded populations.
Provide vision and direction for inclusion initiatives, services and collaborations
Enhance and build resources to meet the specific needs of marginalized sexual assault victims
Coordinate culturally focused workshops, forums and trainings for staff and community partners
Organize and facilitate inclusion meetings that focus on barrier reduction, resource and knowledge building and expansion of current modalities and service sites to better meet the needs of sexual assault victims from marginalized communities.
Coordinate a trauma informed network of cultural specific agencies to provide referrals to meet the needs of diverse and marginalized populations
Revise and strengthen HAVEN’s Limited English Proficiency (LEP) plan and language access resources
Provide input into culturally specific and targeted outreach/awareness materials
Participate in culturally focused work groups and task force meetings in the community
Work to create a “living” plan for building capacity to serve sexual assault victims from diverse populations
Provide support and information to staff regarding sexual assault capacity building plan for sexual assault victims
Participate in and provide support to HAVEN’s SART meetings to ensure an ongoing focus of inclusion/diversity
Bring advocacy and education on legal processes and victims’ rights into the communities of underserved groups
Track and report on any deliverables for funders, program development and HAVEN’s board.
